Interview with Shaunali Nanda, founder and owner of Sloane by Hand
We are an artisanal brand where we print all our fabrics with handmade blocks and strictly follow the process.
This is a brand that I have built for America and Europe, based on my love for my country and it's craft.
I began working on my Masters in the UK while being the lead researcher on the magnificent Indian Jewels sale at Christies, to being the Visual merchandising Manager for VCA and Hermes (during the year of India) in New York. With nearly 15 years of visual and store design experience in New York. My exposure lead me to understand the sense of style and the importance of logistics and operations needed to meet international needs.
Coming back to India and running a factory that my mother started in 1985 of furniture and working with the finest hand carvers and hand polishers who have been with us for generations. I came back to my roots with my forever love of craft, and began my dream of working with block printers and nurturing their passion and livelihood in return.
There are many schools of block printing; the blocks they own, the colors they mix, the hand of the block printer, his sweat and toil that blossom into exuberant flowering plants and buds and their fresh uniqueness.
Sloane by Hand is a celebration of all the elements added with love and devotion.
We hand block print with various special Masters and their school of blocks of which we build our line. We select all our colors, make them by hand and build each design and collection, sample it and then go into production. We print on 100% linen.
We proudly represent the Sloane by Hand collections of textiles, wallpapers and curtain panels in the territories of
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
